What is my screen resolution?

You will hear a lot about screen resolution such as HD, FullHD or 2K when purchasing a laptop or phone and it relates to the sharpness of images. So what is screen resolution? Let’s find out!

Any screen is constituted from multiple numbers of  pixels which are arranged one after another in a specific row and column. Hence, screen resolution is the number of rows and columns of a screen

Ex: For the Full HD 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution you normally see in smartphones and tablets, it means that type of screen that has 1920 rows and 1080 columns of pixels. Therefore, there will be about 1920 x 1080 = 2073600 pixels on the screen or 2.07 megapixels ( 1 megapixels = 1 million pixels)

Compare on the same screen size, the denser a screen pixels or the higher a screen resolution the better quality of visibility

Today, screen technology on devices such as tablets and smartphones has reached an extremely high resolution up to 2K+ and 4K. According to every respective number, it will be stipulated a specific standard name. Here are a few common resolutions:

+ QQVGA: 120 x 160 pixels.

+ QVGA: 320 x 240 pixels.

+ WQVGA: About 360 x 240 pixels (ratio 3:2), 400 x 240 pixels (ratio 5:3) hay 428 x 240 pixels or 432 x 240 pixels (estimated ratio 16:9).

+ VGA: 640 x 480 pixels with a frame ratio 4:3.

+ WVGA: with a resolution of 768 x 480 pixels, 720 x 480 pixels (ratio 3:2), 800 x 480 pixels (ratio 5:3).

+ FWVGA: 854 x 480 pixels (ratio 16:9).

+ SVGA: 800 x 600 pixels with a screen ratio 4:3 or 832 x 624 pixels.

+ DVGA: 960 x 640 pixels with ratio 3:2.

+ qHD: 960 x 540 pixels.

+ XGA: 1024 x 768 pixels with ratio 4:3.

+ HD: 1280 x 720 pixels or 1366 x 768 pixels.

+ HD+: with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels or 1480 x 720 pixels, 1520 x 720 pixels, ect.

+ WXGA and other variants of HD: 1366 x 768 pixels with aspect ratio 16:9 and some other types: 1360 x 768 pixels, 1280×800 pixels, 1280×768 pixels,..

+ Full HD: 1920 x 1080 pixels.

+ Full HD+ : Has a resolution about 2160 x 1080 pixels, 2280 x 1080 pixels, 2340 x 1080 pixels, ect.

+ QHD (2K): 2560 x 1440 pixels.

+ QHD+ (2K+): Has a resolution at about 3200 x 1800 pixels, 2960 x 1440 pixels, 3120 x 1440 pixels, ect.

+ UHD (4K): 3840 x 2160 pixels or 4096 x 2160 pixels.
